Main organizer of the 19th Footbag Worlds in Prague, Jan "Dexer" Struz provides an interview, now just couple of days before the principal event of our sport starts.
Hi Dee, is that right that Worlds 2008 take place in Prague again or is that only a flashback of super memories back from 2003?
Yes, that’s right, the biggest footbag event on the planet comes to Prague again. If we look back to 2003 Worlds in Prague, we can only have tears of happiness in our eyes. It really was un unforgetable time and full of memories. It was first time Worlds in Europe and we had a big boom of this sport here. Five years later we are here again looking forward to this week full of fun among our beloved footbag family.
At what disciplines will be the players finally competing?
There are many of them. Aside from classical net competitions we have new freestyle disciplines. Totaly we have 19 disciplines and on the top of that we have frisbee Euro champs last two days.
How are the players‘ conditions and how is the stadium?
Either net and freestyle players have good sport conditions ready, in the case of rain the is a cover hall ready. The stadium has a new tartan surface and the gras fields are also new. The net players will be the first ones to test it. We hope there will be a nice summer weather.
Who of the top world players is dreaming about freestyle and net medals?
There is no surprise to bet Vasek (Klouda) is gonna win all freestyle disciplines where he signs up. For the following positions will be a fight between Honza Weber, Damian Gielnicky and more polish masters, russian soldier Sergey and we can’t forget the Finish athletes like Tony Paakkonen.
I am sorry that players from North America didn’t make it and come. Maybe they are afraid, kiddos ;). The net, it will be a Napoleon’s war. I beleive in multiple world champion Manu Bouchard, but I also know what power have the German and Finish athletes. My personál favorite is Justin Sexton. From top frisbee players I would name Fabio Sanna or Tommy Leitner.
What more attractivities are there for the spectators?
We have a great party places in different parts of Prague. There will be a lot of artists doing various shows, so we have much to look forward to.
How are the Czech players prepared?
Our athletes are tuning up the form and I am only sorry, I can not be with them. I hope, that the hard work will bring a success that the Czech team deserves.
How do you mention an organizational situation, now, couple of days before the start?
Better nothing. Many phone calls, e-mails, stupid (but sometimes even some good ones) questions, smell, many kilometers, exhaustion, great team, fun, booklet will be great, etc.
What message do you send to the hundreds of participants, who are doing they suitcases in these days?
Don’t take it too seriously, give love and make yourselves like at home. „Diky cau!“
